House Envy

I have always loved this house. It's situated on one of the small but grand boulevards in my area of town. Last week, just by chance, I happened upon the listing for the last time it was sold. So beautiful!

Memories ...

As newlyweds, my husband and I rented a fabulous craftsman bungalow not far from where we now live. We loved being there, and a big reason for that was our neighbors. Pete and Fernando. Oh how I miss the carefree days of living across the street from Pete & Fernando ... so many memories of them and their awesome house...

...like the time I popped over to their porch for a quick glass of wine while waiting for my husband to get home from work ... and then stumbled home at 4 the next morning...

...oh, the stories the lap pool in the side yard could tell...

...the beautiful Easter brunches in the dining room...

...the time I saw Pete naked in the bathroom...

...the time I saw Fernando naked in the office...

...the time I literally carried Fernando through that kitchen door, after a wild night of singing show tunes at Keys West...

...all memories of a time long ago but not quite forgotten...

If you would like to make some memories of your own in Pete & Fernando's house, you can ! It's for sale, and since we can't afford to buy it right now, you may as well .... info here.

Nowhere else like it

There's a street in our neighborhood, one of the skinniest, with an awkward intersection or two. Progress doesn't seem to have changed it much in the last 100 years or so. That's just one of the reasons why Teetshorn is my favorite street in all of Houston. It's the street where you can still find the old grocery store, tucked away on a quiet corner. I've been obsessed with this building for many years now. Rumor has it, that it's owned by a friend of a friend of ours ... If it ever goes on the market, I will be first in line.

A few houses down from the old grocery store is this cute as a button, bright green bungalow ...

... with a bee hive hair-do'ed cow in front - OF COURSE.

PS : When the husband and I were first married, we lived a street away from Teetshorn. When it was time for us to buy a home of our own, we scoured the street for anything we could afford. In fact, we came this close to buying an itty bitty house right across the street from the grocery store. We knew it was too small - but the idea of living on a street with " teets " in it just made us giggle uncontrollably. We may be near and over 40 years old, but inside we never made it past 12.

House envy ... again

The Country Living "House of the Year" is in the mountains of West Virginia, but it would look just as appropriate in the Swiss Alps ... either way, I'll take it.

Obsession du Jour

The new Domino has a tour of Mark Ruffalo's house. It's casual, warm, personal ... well, it's just perfection in my eyes ... much like Mr. Ruffalo, whom I adore to an inappropriate degree.

Obsession du Jour

Well thanks a lot Nesting blog, now you have me daydreaming again ... Imagining life not in our cute and cozy 1920 craftsman, but in this beautiful, airy, and open abode. I love big living spaces and small bedrooms, and this house suits me just fine.

Oh yes, and THEY HAVE CHICKENS ... shall I remind you of how I feel about THAT ?!

Obsessions du Jour

Dutch doors - I totally love them

This kitchen is the same size and shape as ours. It's giving me lots of ideas for our (very much) future remodel.

I want this sink and faucet combo. I love the painted shiplap and the simple cabinets too.

I'll take that green kettle please.

Wide plank floors. Enough said.

If anyone had ever asked me if I liked trim and moldings the color of mustard, I would have said something like, " H$LL NO " . But this room is fabulous.

Everything about this makes me happy. I'm going to try to make those walnut garlands next year !

OK, now that I've gotten the procrastinating out of the way, it's time to cook and clean for turkey day. If I'm not back before tomorrow, I hope everyone has a happy, healthy, and fun holiday .
